It was a pressure cooker of a game.
Challenged to two set extensions, the DLSU Lady Spikers refused to budge an inch to FEU and notched another straight set win 30-28, 25-12, 28-26, for victory #9.
The Lady Tamaraws came in with a new game plan and busted out the gates with a 5-0 surprise. But as soon as the Lady Spikers adjusted, it was game on for La Salle from there on. Trailing at set point at 21-24, Mars Alba, Jolina Dela Cruz and Angel Canino combined for a 5-0 run to take the lead at 25-24 before Canino finished off the Tams with her personal two-point burst at 30-28.
Going deep into the first set took a huge toll on the shallow-bench Lady Tams as they came out of the huddle huffing and puffing. Holding on to a slim 8-7 lead before the first technical break, the pumped-up Taft spikers went on a fiery 12-3 tear that all but broke down FEU’s resistance in the set.
The Lady Spikers took an easy set #2 at 25-12.
Not ready yet to be swept, FEU battled in the third set, swapping spikes and held a 23-24 lead with set point before a time-out by our legendary Coach Ramil De Jesus. His timeout iced FEU’s server who botched her serve, sending it straight to the net to tie the score at 24-all.
After Fifi Sharma made her own version of a service error, Dela Cruz scored to tie the score at 25 and later teamed up with Jynne Soreno to grab the final set, the match and the Lady Spikers’ 9th straight win at 28-26.
It was a game that epitomized the Attack of the Taft Titans as the Lady Spikers were more aggressive on the net outscoring 49-36 on attack points alone.
Jolina Dela Cruz was the Player of the Game with 13 points, 10 attacks and 1 block.
La Salle will face dangerous UST on Sunday, April 2, 2023 at the Big Dome at 2pm
