THE REDEMPTION TOUR IS ON THE ROAD AND ROLLING!
De La Salle University’s women’s football team is on a mission to redeem themselves after finishing last in the UAAP Season 86 standings. The Lady Green Booters, determined to turn the page on a disappointing campaign, found new energy in rookie sensation Dani Tanjangco, who scored twice to lead DLSU to a 3-1 triumph over the University of the Philippines (UP) on Saturday at the UP Diliman Football Stadium.
This crucial win propels La Salle to the top of the Season 87 standings, with six points and a +4 goal differential, showing early promise for a team that has something to prove.
Eager to make up for the struggles of last season, La Salle took control of the match early. The 18-year-old Tanjangco, a standout from De La Salle-Zobel, opened the scoring in the 17th minute. Maria Layacan then doubled the lead during stoppage time, giving the Lady Green Booters a comfortable 2-0 cushion heading into halftime.
Tanjangco wasn’t done. Just eight minutes into the second half, she struck again, scoring her second goal of the match and third of the season, putting La Salle firmly in control.
“We’ve been working on our fitness and confidence,” said head coach Alvin Ocampo. “Last season was tough, but we’re taking it one match at a time. Now, our focus is on the Ateneo match.”
UP managed to reduce the deficit with a penalty conversion by Hannah Muros in the 56th minute, but La Salle’s defense held strong to secure the 3-1 victory, marking their second consecutive win.
The Lady Green Booters now turn their attention to archrival Ateneo, whom they will face on October 19, as they continue their quest for redemption and hope to maintain their top spot in UAAP Season 87.
