The Green Archers routed the Adamson Falcons, 82-52 yesterday for their second win in as many games. The Archers led from the start, showing their intent early en route to building a double digit lead right in the opening quarter which they increased to fashion out that blowout win.
Reigning MVP Kevin Quiambao led the onslaught, tallying an efficient 21 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals in 25 minutes on the court. Unlike in the first game against NU, Quiambao did not need to carry the load, as the Archers piled on the pressure from the opening buzzer to quickly quelch any hopes Adamson had of pulling off an upset.
He was ably supported by highly-regarded rookie Andrei Dungo who knocked in 15 points on a perfect 5/5 clip from the 3point area. Dungo’s accuracy was marred by a miss on his only 2-point attempt. Although only in his first year with the team, Dungo showed a marked improvement over his first game where he only tallied a couple of free throws.
DLSU FSA Henry Agunanne recovered from a poor opening game to score 11 points and pull down a team-high 16 rebounds. Agunanne is still getting used to the more physical UAAP game, but should likewise show more consistency in the coming games. JC Macalalag ably executed the backcourt duties together with fellow guards Ramiro, David, Rubico, and Alian.
The 3-point shot was a main weapon in yesterday’s game, with the Archers sinking a collective 16 out of 36 attempts from afar, led by Dungo (5), Quiambao (4), Marasigan (2), with Gollena, Macalalag, Raven Gonzales, and Rubico making one each. Their confidence in the long shot was very strong, which was seen at the start of the second half where they made six straight threes. In total, the Archers scored 61 perimeter points.
The Archers pressured Adamson into 17 turnovers which they parlayed into 20 points.
On the other end, the green-and-white aggressive defense limited the Falcons into an 18/61 field goal accuracy, and so rattled were the Adamson players that they only made 4 out of their 19 tries from beyond the arc. Only Manzano managed to score in double digits.
The only negatives from the game were the 19 turnovers, equal to their miscues against NU.
Coach Topex fielded in 14 players, with only CJ Austria and Isiaiah Phillips not seeing action.
The game was an excellent tuneup for Sunday’s much anticipated match against Ateneo.
ANIMO!
