The Green Archers showcased their explosive potential in a thrilling showdown, turning the tide in the third quarter to secure a resounding victory over the Adamson Falcons. What began as a closely contested game at halftime, with La Salle trailing 32-33, evolved into a dominant performance, concluding with a final score of 71-58 in favor of the Green Archers.
The Adamson Falcons came out of the gate with intensity, applying a relentless and aggressive style of play that repeatedly thwarted La Salle’s attempts to seize control. Their physicality, reminiscent of the renowned San Marcelino brand, consistently disrupted the Green Archers’ flow.
However, as the second-half buzzer sounded, a transformed Green Archers squad emerged. The pivotal run that changed the game’s complexion was spearheaded by none other than Evan Nelle, who ignited the Falcons-killing spree. Nelle’s fastbreak layup and a Mike Phillips assist to Quiambao for a thunderous slam quickly turned the tables, giving La Salle a 39-38 lead with 6:40 left in the third quarter.
Following a key defensive stop, Nelle executed another twisting fastbreak layup, extending the lead to 43-38. The Green Archers were just getting warmed up, with KQ knocking down a catch-and-shoot three, followed by another triple from Mike Phillips, propelling La Salle to a double-digit advantage at 49-38. At this point, the Falcons had no choice but to call for a timeout at the 3:49 mark of the third quarter, but there was no extinguishing the blazing green flame that had been ignited.
In the subsequent play, Adamson’s struggles continued as they turned the ball over at halfcourt, setting the stage for a Quiambao to Mike Phillips alley-oop, sending the fans into a frenzy. With a barrage of highlight dunks and morale-shattering three-pointers, the Adamson Falcons appeared bewildered on both ends of the court.
Seizing this opportunity, Nelle added another finger roll, while Joaqui Manuel chipped in with a three-pointer from the top of the key. Quiambao capped off the remarkable 23-0 run with a midrange jumper, stretching the lead to an imposing 58-38 with just 1:16 remaining in the third quarter.
As the dust settled from the incredible run, it was clear that the game belonged to La Salle. Despite a contentious final 10 minutes, the Taft squad managed to secure a 71-58 victory, locking in a tie for the second spot in the standings with a 3-1 record, alongside the NU Bulldogs.
Leading the charge for the Archers, Quiambao recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Mike Phillips contributed 14 points and nine boards. Evan Nelle showcased his versatility, notching an impressive 15 rebounds alongside his 12 points while efficiently quarterbacking the Green Archers.
Next up, La Salle is set to face National U on Sunday at 2 PM at the MOA Arena, promising another exciting showdown for Animo La Salle supporters.
