The DLSU Lady Spikers overcame an unexpectedly tough Adamson Lady Falcons challenge in the first two sets before ripping the game open on the third to clinch win #2 with a straight sets victory, 25-21, 25-20, 25-14, this afternoon at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Feeding on off-speed balls and drops, a much-improved Adamson side was able to keep the game close in the first two sets. La Salle battled through a first set standoff at 18-all and 17-all in the second set and then leaned on their strong finishing kick to win both sets.

But by the third, the Lady Falcons were already worn out. From a tied game at 11-all, the Lady Spikers turned on the jets with Leiah Malaluan, Thea Gagate, Fifi Sharma and Baby Jynne Soreno displaying their own edition of the block party to spark a 14-3 game deciding run and clinch their second straight win.

Jolina dela Cruz led all Lady Spikers with 12 points, 12 attacks and 11 digs while Leiah Malaluan also added 12 points. Game one Player of the Game Baby Jynne Soreno, who was only subbed in at the start of the third set, topped the team with 2 blocks.

Justine Jazareno was the highlight of La Salle’s excellent floor defense with 28 digs out of 32 attempts with an excellent efficiency of 87.5%.

On the other side, the Lady Spikers signature net attacks destroyed the Adamson floor defense with the volleybelles from San Marcelino ware only able to successfully dig 29 out of 115 attempts.

Next up: a battle for the lead with the also-unbeaten NU Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday, May 10 at 4pm.
